Meet the Athlete

Maddie started cycling when she was 17 years old and joined a junior team out of Boulder, Colorado. She raced one year of criteriums and road races until the team set up a "Learn the Velo" day at the Colorado Springs velodrome and she was hooked. She has been a track sprinter ever since! As part of the USA Cycling National Team, she has raced internationally at Junior World Championships, Pan-American Championship, Pan-American Games, UCI World Cups, and UCI World Championships. She has won two World Cup gold medals in the keirin, and has been on the podium at the PanAm Champs and World Cup sprint events. She currently holds the flying 200m, standing 250m, and team sprint national records; and is a 17-time national champion. In 2021, she joined the USA Cycling Board of Directors as an Athlete Representative to help affect positive athlete-centered change at the organizational level to help all athletes feel supported so that they can achieve more.

What is your favorite post-ride snack/meal?

A large bowl of watermelon alongside some recovery protein!

What is your favorite quote or piece of advice to live by?

Always #fullsend. This is particularly applicable in keirin races, which are my favorite, when you can't get intimidated by bumping and rubbing elbows in a very tight bunch. You have to find a hole and make your move without thinking!

What is your favorite movie and/or book and why?

"The Boys in the Boat" written by Daniel James Brown. This is a complete underdog story that got my heart racing, so much so that I finished my book in one day when I had thought I would be able to ration it over the four days of lockdown during my stint racing Japanese Keirin!
